6. Relevant legal and ethical requirements.

Viva La Gong is obliged to enhance community safety, quality of life and confidence by minimising the impact of hazards and emergency incidents on the people. One source of achievement for this goal is preventing or preparing for emergencies in the events.

For volunteer assistants the organisation provided the Red T shirt with the Viva La Gong logo on the back so people can recognize the difference between volunteers and coordinators and the general public. The IMB banking support logo hats protected volunteers and employees from sun damage in this mostly open-air event.

The volunteers also received the lifting information sheet by the final meeting day. This sheet explained: back injury, pinch points and strains caused by incorrect carrying objects. Also this sheet shows the volunteer the lifting techniques for loading, including how to use trolleys and lifting aids so you do not endanger yourself or others.
